ELMHURST, IL, April 22, 2008:
To reduce its global footprint, Polyline has formed a "Go Green Team," a committee of Polyline employees dedicated to coming up with ideas to help the environment and then implementing those ideas in its facilities in Elmhurst, IL, and Burbank, CA.
"Becoming good global citizens does not happen over night," said Bob Daly, co-owner of Polyline. "Each step we take diminishes our impact on the environment and it also brings to light more changes we can make."
Since the committee's formation in January, the Go Green Team has implemented several changes within Polyline:
- Inter-office reports, which were previously printed on virgin paper, are now available via email or intranet.
- In the lunch room, paper plates have been replaced with "real" tableware.
- The company has started an educational campaign to discourage employees and managers from printing emails.
- Polyline has begun an in-house recycling program for plastics, glass, paper and aluminum.
"We wanted our co-workers to adopt these eco-friendly changes gradually," said Jurgita Barkauskaite, marketing coordinator and member of Go Green Team. "Our people are conscious of the environment and, if we provide them with greener options, they will take advantage, whether it’s our in-house recycling program or the new glassware in the lunchroom."
The Go Green Team is excited the changes are already seen, Barkauskaite reported. Employees have embraced the recycling program and were even enthusiastic about using glass plates at the last office party.
"Go Green has received a lot of suggestions from coworkers about other steps we can take, as a company and as individuals, to help our environment," she said. "It will take some time, but I think we're doing the right thing."
