The Ultrium LTO (Linear Tape-Open) format uses a single-reel cartridge and is optimized for high capacity and performance. Ideally suited for backup, restore, and archive applications, the Ultrium LTO cartridge establishes a new benchmark for large volume backup and archive.
Polyline carries LTO Ultrium cartridges made by Fuji, Maxell, Sony, TDK and HP.

| LTO Ultrium 5 Tapes |
Ultrium 5 LTO cartridges have a 1.5TB native storage capacity. (That's a 3.0TB capacity when using 2:1 compression.) The cartridges also provide transfer rates of up to 280MB/sec., assuming a 2:1 compression.
LTO Ultrium 5 enables the drive to segment the tape media into 2 partitions which can be independently accessed to help provide faster data access and improved data management. By partitioning the tape, it allows one partition to hold the index, which tells the drive exactly where a file is located. The second partition holds the content.
Files on an LTO Ultrium 5 (using the Linear Tape File System or LTFS) can be
accessed by PC in much the same way the PC can access a hard drive. The LTO 5 tapes would have the same file structure / directory trees as a hard drive.

Ultrium 4 LTO cartridges have an 800GB native storage capacity. (That's a 1.6TB capacity when using 2:1 compression.) The cartridges also provide transfer rates of up to 240MB/sec., assuming a 2:1 compression.
The LTO Ultrium 4 system uses an AES encryption algorithm, with 256-bit keys in GCM Mode (AES256-GCM). The first midrange tape to offer AES256-GCM encryption, it helps provide data confidentiality and integrity, protecting your information during storage and transportation.
